Pastor Umo Eno has been sworn in as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State with a firm pledge that he will lead the State into a Golden Era with greater developmental strides built from already existing foundation in diverse sectors of the State, as contained in the ARISE AGENDA.
The fifth elected Governor of the state while giving his inaugural address, Monday May 29 at the Nest of Champions arena, Uyo, after taking oath of office was highly appreciative of the immense support which saw to his emergence, expressing optimism that Akwa Ibom will attain greater heights with stronger economy and more opportunities for the people to aspire and grow.
"Today, because my worthy Predecessor knew that the provision of world -class infrastructure, especially economically viable road network that connects the State seamlessly will ensure rapid economic development, we,are blessed and ready to utilize this all- important driver of growth, prosperity and development to connect the dots and A.R.I.S.E. further with our growth and development."
"My fellow Akwa Ibomites, in the last eight years, our State has witnessed monumental developmental strides across all sectors, earning the national acclaim as “Nigeria’s Best Kept Secret.” We owe my Predecessor and Political Father our debt of gratitude. From aviation development, where today we are the only sub national with a thriving airline in the nation, the Ibom Air, to the smartest Airport Terminal building, the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) the longest Taxiway in the nation, with Category 2 Certification, our story has been one where, as providentially stated in Job 22: 29 “when men are cast down, then thou shall say there is lifting up.
Referring to his plan on agriculture and food sufficiency, Governor Eno said his administration will invest great resources in the sector and take advantage of Akwa Ibom's natural endowment and human capital to make the state a hub of agriculture and exportation that will cover all areas of agriculture including fishing.
"The first letter in our A.R.I.S.E. Agenda is Agriculture. We will invest heavily in this critical sector and cause a revolution to occur. Agriculture is the new black gold, and we will get our people involved. Food security and investments in the agro-allied sector will be an abiding article of faith. We will deploy our comparative advantage in the blue economy and ensure that our fishermen get proper financial value for their work.
While making a case for reconciliation and unity of the state, the Governor in words said that he is calling on everyone to come together, and "build a State where the pain of one Akwaibomite is the pain of all, and where the success of one Akwaibomite is the success for all."
"We have been too polarized by politics; this should not be. As I said in my Victory Speech, we will set up a bi-partisan reconciliation committee soon, so we can jaw-jaw instead of war-war on critical issues of our development, unity and brotherhood."
Governor Umo Eno is the fifth democratically elected Governor of Akwa Ibom State and fourth consecutive elected Governor since 1999 produed on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and has resumed duty alongside the new Deputy Governor, Sen (Dr) Akon Eyakenyi.
